Early years and childcare practitioners are in a unique position to observe changes in a child's behaviour or appearance which give rise to concern about their wellbeing. They also have a duty to comply with the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (DfE 2014) as set out in section 40 of the Childcare Act 2006.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as protecting children from maltreatment, preventing impairment of children's health or development, ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care, and taking action to ensure all children have the best outcomes. Children are best protected when professionals are clear about what is required of them individually, and how they need to work together.
This course will ensure all staff are fully aware of what safeguarding is and their obligations to ensure it is adhered to. It will also help staff plan effectively for an inspection.
