Transitions from nursery to reception, and reception to year 1, can often prove challenging for young children. These significant milestones in their lives need to be organised well in advance, with thought and great care.

This course will enable you to create a comprehensive transition process involving nursery and reception practitioners, senior leaders, children, and parents, to ensure that children move smoothly from one setting to another and settle securely into the next phase of their education.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

1. To know how to develop a child-centred approach to transition
2. To know how to involve parents in the transition process
3. To know how to develop transition with feeder settings
4. To understand the why, when, and how, of home visits
5. To know how to develop a settling in program, focused on the children, whilst still meeting the requirements of baseline assessment
6. To know how you can use current research to promote the benefits of a play-based transition in year one, to senior leaders

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.
