It is estimated that one in every 100 children born in the UK suffers from Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). Foetal Alcohol Syndrome is a disorder that can occur to the embryo when a pregnant woman ingests alcohol during pregnancy.

This course will enable practitioners to gain an understanding of FAS, the physical and cognitive features of the disorder, and the impact that it can have on children and families.



The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To understand what foetal alcohol syndrome is
  2. To understand the symptoms of foetal alcohol syndrome
  3. To learn what to do if you suspect foetal alcohol syndrome
  4. To learn about the consequences of foetal alcohol syndrome and how it affects children in their later lives


This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.
