The development of the early years curriculum is a big issue. The early years does not have a recommended curriculum, so it is up to settings to devise their own. Most settings use the frameworks and guidance issued centrally but some settings are brave and devise their own curriculum based on what they know about child development, the children in their care, the community and the context of the setting, and children’s interests. This is such an exciting prospect and during this course we will examine how to do this.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To know how to use children’s interests
  2. To know whether to theme or not to theme
  3. To understand all areas of learning and development
  4. To know the importance of taking account of children’s skills and abilities

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.
