Prolonged stress in young children can slow or even stop both brain development and physical growth. Prolonged exposure to cortisol released during the stress response can cause long-term damage to the developing brain and can negatively affect the immune system. Because of the possible negative impact, it’s key that you know how to deal with stress in your setting.

This course will look at what stress is and how it might affect a child or baby, as well as how you can identify abuse and make a referral.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To understand what stress is
  2. To know how it affects a child or baby
  3. To understand positive learning in all areas
  4. To be able to recognise the impact of stress
  5. To know how to identify abuse and make a referral
  6. To understand referral for cases of concern that are not child abuse

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.

Should you wish to discuss your needs before accessing the course, please call 0800 774 7874.
