Sustained shared thinking refers to the concept of two or more individuals coming together in an intellectual way to problem solve, evaluate an activity, tell a story, share an experience and so much more. Both parties are totally engaged in the conversation, making it educational, memorable and beneficial.

This course will help practitioners in the Early Years to understand how they can best promote the ideology of sustained shared thinking, implement it into their own practices and watch the children they care for intellectually grow.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To understand the meaning of sustained shared thinking
  2. To learn how to implement the practice of sustained shared thinking into my setting
  3. To understand my role in encouraging sustained shared thinking, as a practitioner
  4. To understand that allowing children to do things for themselves allows them to learn more, and grow more

This course ensures your practice is in line with the requirements of the Childcare Act 2006 (the Act), as amended by the Children and Families Act 2014. It will also support your continuous professional development and enable you to keep well informed and up-to-date with current practice.

Should you wish to discuss your training needs based on the children in your care, please call 0800 774 787.
