More people than we realise have epilepsy. However, it is not usually noticeable, because medication keeps lots of symptoms of epilepsy at bay. Epilepsy can take effect suddenly, catching people by surprise.

This course is vital as it ensures that practitioners know exactly what to do in these situations and is aimed at Early Years practitioners who work with young people. Learners will gain knowledge on the main effects of epilepsy, and the importance of supporting children and young people to take medication as directed by their doctor.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To understand what epilepsy is, as an illness
  2. To understand how we, as practitioners, can keep children and young people with epilepsy safe
  3. To learn about different kinds of seizures
  4. To understand what to do if a child or young person has an epileptic seizure
  5. To understand that, overall, children with epilepsy can do everything that children without epilepsy can do

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.

Should you wish to discuss your needs before accessing the course, please call 0800 774 7874.

If you are an organisation and you have 5 or more learners who require the above training please consider our face to face options.
