In your setting, it is very possible that one of the children you work with has been witness to domestic abuse, or that one of the parents has been a victim of domestic abuse. Domestic abuse can have a negative impact on children, but before dealing with that you must understand domestic violence and abuse.

This course will look at what domestic violence is and the different types of abuse you may witness. It will then detail how it affects the children and what you can do to help – be that reporting the abuse yourself or helping someone else to report it.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To understand what domestic violence is
  2. To learn whether domestic abuse is gender specific
  3. To understand the different types of abuse
  4. To learn why it might not be reported
  5. To understand the main aspects of how it affects children
  6. To learn the specific policy around abuse
  7. To understand how to report it/how to help people report it

This course ensures your practice is in line with the requirements of the Childcare Act 2006 (the Act), as amended by the Children and Families Act 2014. It will also support your continuous professional development and enable you to keep well informed and up-to-date with current practice.

Should you wish to discuss your training needs based on the children in your care, please call 0800 774 787.
