Trauma can affect somebody from as young as 0-12 months and continue to do so for the whole of their life, meaning that understanding the causes, symptoms, and ways to help as much as possible is crucial for early years practitioners.

Everybody reacts differently when faced with complex trauma, depending on a number of factors including their age, what the traumatic experience was, how long ago the traumatic experience lasted for, etc.

This course will help you understand the process of complex trauma in general, along with understanding the developing brain.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To understand what we mean when we use the term ‘trauma’
  2. To learn what the different types of traumatic events have in common
  3. To learn why people respond differently to the same traumatic event
  4. To learn what is meant by the term ‘PTSD’
  5. To understand what ‘complex trauma’ is
  6. To understand how complex trauma differs from PTSD, yet is similar at the same time
  7. To understand the developing brain
  8. To learn how practitioners can support

This course ensures your practice is in line with the requirements of the Childcare Act 2006 (the Act), as amended by the Children and Families Act 2014. It will also support your continuous professional development and enable you to keep well informed and up-to-date with current practice.
