Sometimes communicating with people can frustrating, and it can be even worse with children. Especially when you need them to do something!

This course will break down communication in an early years setting and will help you to understand aggression and conflict and how to de-escalate these situations.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To have knowledge and understanding of aggression and conflict while being able to recognise typical signs and causes
  2. To have knowledge and understanding of the importance of using de-escalation strategies, where possible
  3. To be aware of the concept of the conflict spiral, levels of behaviour and the need for an appropriate response in order to maximise the opportunity to calm the incident, through non- verbal and verbal strategies where possible.
  4. To have knowledge and understanding of a whole-setting, holistic approach to behaviour management, including the importance of self-awareness and self-control while managing challenging behaviour

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.
