Autism is a serious, lifelong, and often disabling condition that affects around one in every 100. It is crucial that Early Years practitioners know the facts, as well as the myths, around autism and the autism spectrum.

This course will touch upon the background, history and science of autism, as well as looking at practical strategies for dealing with autism in an Early Years setting. It will also cover the signs and symptoms that practitioners should watch out for to enable them to deal with it as early as possible.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To understand what autism is (Including the neurological factors)
  2. To know the symptoms of an autistic
  3. To be able to identify the early warning signs of autism
  4. To know practical strategies and techniques to support an autistic child

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.
